The Gentlemen of Philadelphia opened their tour at Dublin on July 2 with this match. After being out in the field for 289, they had lost five wickets on the first night for 43 runs, Messrs. Patterson and Palmer, however, improved matters, and as the last wicket added 65, the total ultimately reached 177. In the follow on, Messrs. GENTLEMEN OF IRELAND. Some high scoring was the result of thiB match, played at Dublin on Thursday and Friday last, 9 1 7 runs being got in the two days for thirty-six wickets. At the finish, the Philadelphians wanted 9 6 to win with four wickets to fall. Messrs. Brown and Clarke S ut on 155 for the third wicket in the Phila- elphians* second innings. Mr. Patterson was the most successful bowler for the American team. He took ten of the seventeen Irish wickets for 174 runs. GENTLEMEN OF SCOTLAND. The Philadelphians showed to great advan­ tage in this match, begun at Edinburgh on Monday, winning on Tuesday night by ten wickets. The Scotchmen won the toss, but the bowling of Patterson and Clarke proved too much for them, and they were all out for 66. In their second attempt they fared much better, thanks to Mannas and Walker, who contributed 182 of the total of 340.
