French, the captain of the latter, bowling fast under hand, in six overs bowled seven wickets at a cost of 7 runs. The last five wickets he clean bowled in his last over with five successive balls. NOTTS v. DERBYSHIRE. It has remained for what is termed by some cricket critics, a second-class county, to break the sequence of single-innings victories that had been following the Notts eleven so far this season. Though the spell was broken in this match, played at Trent Bridge on Monday and Tuesday, the result was another brilliant victory for the lace county, this time by 10 wickets. Derbyshire was fortunate to win the toss, on a good wicket, and against the full strength of the Nottingham bowling, made a very creditable stand, securing. 190 before the last wicket fell. The honours of this per formance rested on Messrs. S. Evershed and Eadie, who were responsible for 105 of the number. Mr. Eadie’s 61was a faultless innings, and Mr. Evershed’s 54, though marred by two chances, was a brilliant display of free cricket. When Derbyshire took the field, too, they made a good start, Shrewsbury being well caught at the wicket when he had made 6. Though, thanks to the fine cricket of Gunn, the total was raised on Monday night to 145 for four wickets the tail did little, and when the innings closed Notts only had an advan tage of 34 runs. In their second innings, Derbyshire at luncheon time on Tuesday had made 75 for four wickets, but afterwards Attewell, helped by the ground, bowled with great success, and the last remaining batsmen only added 29. With 71 to win, Notts sent in Gunn and Shrewsbury to make the runs, and in an hour they were got without the loss of a wicket, Gunn, who scored 128 in the match for once out, contributing the greater part, D e r b y s h ir e .
