T he Surrey authorities, from what I can learn, appear to be a little uncertain as to the best way of filling up the vacancy in the County eleven caused by Mr. M. P. Bowden’s stay in South Africa. Four or five young, and some of them promising, professionals are avail able, and two of them, Sharpe and Lock wood, who both hail from Notts, are certain to have a thoroughly good trial. Sharpe, during the two summers he has been at the Oval, has shown himself to be a consistently good bowler, and it is hoped that he will maintain this form in county cricket. The two professionals named did a really good performance in getting a strong eleven of Bickley Park out on Saturday last on a good pitch, at Bickley, for a small total of 58. Lockwood in
