Shrewsbury and Ulyett put on 101for first wicket of Englishmen. Nov. 9.—Melbourne. Mr. Vernon’s Team v. Victoria. Umpire’s white coats as in England used for the first time in Australia. Nov. 12.—Nelson (N.Z.) Nelson v. Nelson Athletics. Four innings only realised 68 runs. Nov. 12.—Sydney. Shrewsbury’s English Team v. New South Wales. A ball from Ferris rolled against the wicket while Lohmann was batting, shifted the bail out of the groove, and left it hanging over the edge of the stump. Nov. 18.—Ballarat. Mr. Vernon’s Team v. Eighteen of Ballarat. Mr. A. E. Stoddart and Abel put on 135 for first wicket of former. Dec. 5.—Lord’s. First meeting of County Cricket Council. Dec. 10.—Melbourne. Mr. Vernon’s Team v. Eighteen Melbourne Juniors. The first matting wicket used on the ground of the Melbourne Club. Mr. Stoddart and Abel put on 125 runs for first wicket of former. Mr. Vernon’s Team totalled 556. Of these Mr. Stoddart made 285, the largest individual score obtained by an Englishman in Australia. Dec. 18.—Melbourne. Shrewsbury’s English Team v. Victoria. English Team obtained 624, of which Shrews­ bury made 232. The highest English total as well as individual score in eleven-a-side matches in Australia. Dec.20.—Melbourne. Melbourne Grammar School v. Sydney Grammar School. A tie. Sydney G.S. 64 and 147, Melbourne G.S. 120 and 91. Dec. 28.—Adelaide. Mr. Vernon’s English Team v. South Australia. G. Giffen got *203 in second innings of latter. The highest score ever made against an English eleven in Australia. South Australia’s second innings of 493 is, too, the largest total scored against an English team in Australia. G. Giffen and W.
