Haigh scored 155 runs for the latter in fifty-five minutes. August 1.—Private Banks v. Crystal Palace. Private Banks scored 599. August 1.—Edmonton v. Junior Middlesex. Edmonton scored 527. August 1.—Kennington Oval. Surrey v. Notts. As many as 24,450 persons paid for admission to the ground. The largest number, it is believed, re corded in a day in a cricket match in England. In the three days, money was taken for 51,607 visitors. August 2.—Maidstone. Mote Park v. Shorn- cliffe Camp. F. M. Atkins scored 864 of the former’s total of 633. The largest individual score of the year. August 3.—Manchester. Manchester C. and G. v. Uppingham Rovers. Mold took all ten wickets of latter in first innings. August 3.—Wandsworth. H . Y. Green’s XI- v. Flamingoes. C. D. Hamilton carried his bat through former’s innings for 113. August 3.—Canterbury. Yorkshire v. Kent. Ulyett scored 124, Hall 110 and F. Lee 119 for Yorkshire. The only instance, we believe, of the first three batsmen on the side scoring over a hundred runs in an important match. There were four innings of three figures in the match. August 4.—Crystal Palace. Crystal Palace v. Charlton Park. Crystal Palace scored 534. C. J. Fox made 261 (not out). The largest score got by a batsman on Crystal Palace. Ground. August 4.—Kennington Oval. Surrey v. Gloucestershire. In Surrey’s first innings A. P. Douglas was in forty- five minutes before he made a run. August 5.—Streatham. Streatham v. Leather- head. H. H. Scott carried his bat through former’s innings scoring 182 out of 365. August 5.—Wellington (Somerset). Wel lington v. Cuckoo Penners. C. E. W inter and H. F. Fox added 187 for the tenth wicket of Wellington. August 6 .—Canterbury. Kent v. Middlesex. Mr. A. J. Webbe carried his bat through the latter’s innings for 192 out of 412. In the three days 1,017 runs were totalled for thirty wickets. August 6 .—Albert v. Excelsior (Wanstead). C. Gillard took all ten wickets in latter’s innings. August 6 . —Eleven Watneys played Horley. August 8 .—Bradford. Yorkshire v. Lanca shire. Yorkshire scored 590. Hall and F. Lee put on 280 for the second wicket. During the day Yorkshire got 434 runs for the loss of only two wickets. The best achievement of the kind in an important match. Altogether 1,210 runs were totalled for 28 wickets. This is the second highest aggregate in an important match in England. August 8 .—Southampton. Uppingham Rovers v. Hampshire C. and G. Rovers scored 567. August 8 .—Maidstone. Mote Park v. Free Foresters. Mote Park scored 531. August 9.—Exmouth. Incogniti v. Exmouth. H . Iv. Avory carried his bat through former’s second innings, scoring 57 out of 201 . August 10.—Portsmouth. Uppingham Rovers v. United Services. Rovers scored 659 for four wickets. S. S. Schultz 286, L. Martineau not out 184. August 10.—Brighton. Surrey v. Sussex. Surrey won by one wicket. Adams (his first apparance for Surrey), who went in tenth wicket, got all the last seven runs. August 10.—Tenterden. Rev. W . French’s X I. v. Tenterden. T. Morley took all ten wickets of latter for 13 runs. August 10.—Clifton. Gloucestershire v. Notts. Mr. W . G. Grace carried his bat through the second inning3 of Gloucestershire, scoring 113 out of 186. August 11.—Notting H ill v. Ennis Visitors. J. P. A. Geoghegan carried his bat through former’s innings for 127. August 13.—Huddersfield. Middlesex v. York shire. A. J. Webbe carried his bat through the former’ssecond innings for 243 out of 527. His highest score in important matches. August 13.—Kennington Oval. Lancashire v. Surrey. Mr. J. Eccles and F. H. Sugg added 152 runs for the third wicket in former’s second innings. August 13.—Cambridge. Cambridge Victoria v. St. John’s L.V.C. Victoria scored 507. August 15.—Exmouth. Bath Rovers v. Ex mouth. Bath Rovers scored 512. August 15.—Portsmouth. University W an derersv. United Service. Wanderers scored 531. August 16.—Kennington Oval. Surrey v. Derbyshire. Henderson and Abel added 177 for the sixth wicket in Surrey’s second innings. August 17.—Nottingham. Notts v. Middlesex. Notts scored 596, the largest total of the year in an important match. Shrewsbury was in nearly two whole days for his 267, the highest score of the season in first-class fixtures. Sherwsbury and Barnes put on 214 runs for the third wicket. August 17.—Maidstone. Mote Park v. St. Lawrence, Canterbury. Mr. F. M. Atkins and A. Hearne made 399 for first wicket of former. August 17.—Preston Park (Brighton). St. Peter’s v. Shoreditch. Tate, the Su£b 3 X professional, carried his bat through the former’s innings for 150 out of a total of 252. August 19.—St. Giles. St. Giles v. Ed- monsham. A tie match. Ed- monsham scored 62 and 73, St. Giles 71 and 64. August 20.—Oval. Surrey v. Kent. Mr. K. J. Key hit a ball of Frank Hearne to square leg out of the ground. The only cases of a similar kind, as far as we know, in important matches during the last ten years, occurred in 1878, when Mr. W .H. Game (Surrey) hit Mr. F. R. Spoft'orth (Australians) out. Messrs. w . W . Read and K. J. Key added 241 runs for second wicket in three hours in Surrey’s second innings. August 24.—Lord’s. M.C.C. and G. v. Herts. Hearne and Mr. Wales made 191 for first wicket of Herts. August 21.—Clifton. Middlesexv. Gloucester shire. Middlesex won by one wicket. When Mr. Welman, the last bats man, came 21 runs were still wanted to win. August 24.—Uxbridge. Uxbridge v. Great Marlow. Uxbridge scored 517. August 24.—Sheffield. Yorkshire v. Notts. At finish Yorkshire wanted three runs to win with two wickets to fall. A ugust 25.—Clifton. Gloucestershire v. Kent Mr. W . G. Grace scored 101 and 103 (not out.) The only previous instances in first-class matches, as far as we know, are when Mr. W . G. Grace scored 130 and 102 (not out) for the North against the South at Canterbury, in lfc 86 , and W. Lam bert’s 107 (not out) and 157 for Sussex against Epsom at Lord’s in 1817. D. G. Spiro also scored 117 and 106 for Cambridge Athenteum against Bullingdon Club on May 30, 1884, and F. W . Maude 146 and 143 for M.C.C. and Ground v. Wiltshire at Lord’s on August 25 and 26,1886. August 25.—Southampton. Surrey v. Hamp shire. Lohmann got a wicket with the first ball in each innings of Hampshire. August 27.—Nottingham. Notts v. Sussex. Notts scored 570. Shrewsbury and Mr. J. A. Dixon put on 109 for first wicket, Shrewsbury and Gunn 181 for second. At one time the score was 529 with only three batsmen out August 27.—Shepherd’s Bush. Pallingswick. v. Clapham Wanderers. Pallings wick scored 686 . August 27.—W itham . W itham v. Mr. II. F Ward’s Eleven. W itham scored 552 for seven wickets. August 29.—Kennington Oval. Surrey v. Sussex. In the first innings of Sussex, in playing forward to a ball of Lohmann, Quaife was beaten altogether, and lost his balance. Thinking he had been bowled from the noise of the ball hitting the wicket, which it did without dislodging the bails, he left the ground and was promptly stumped. Sept. 3.—Marlborough Club v. City Rovers. A. E. Fisher clean bowled all ten wickets of Rovers for six runs. Sept. 3.—Cleve v. Blagdon. G. Knowles carried his bat through former’s innings, scoring 106 out of 1S2. Sept. 3.—Hilsea. C. E. R. Isherwood’s Eleven v. Hilsea Garrison (twelve a-side). Capt. Lipscombe took all eleven wickets of latter for 15 runs. Sept. 6 .—Scarborough. North v. South. L. Hall carried his bat through former’s innings, scoring 105 out of 261. Sept.9.—Gloucester. Single v. Married of Gloucester Corn Trade. In first inoings of Married, H. E. Cadenne took all ten wickets for 25 runs. Sept. 10.—Cranleigh. Twelve of Cranleigh v. Twenty-four Veterans. J. Walder carried liis bat through former’s innings. Sept. 10.—Blackheath. Ten Christopher- sons played a Blackheath Eleven. Sept. 15.—The Orient steamer “ Iberia ” left London with the two English Teams (Melbourne Club and Shrews bury and Lillywhite) for Australia. Sept. 16.—Hastings. Mr. Herbert Pigg’s Eleven v. Hastings Rovers. Messrs. C. J. Godfrey and E. Matheson made the last 191 runs scored by Rovers in 48 minutes. Sept. 17.—Brimington. Brimington v. Tau- kersley. M. Cropper carried his bat through former’s innings for 31. Oct. 15.—Melbourne. Erskine v. Deaf Mutes. J. Bryant clean bowled all the wickets in each innings of latter. Oct. .—Sydney. Verona Club v. W . Akhurst and Co. Latter were dis missed for one run (a wide). Oct. 28.—Adelaide. First match of Mr. G. F. Vernon’s (Melbourne Club) team in Australia. Oct. 29.—Adelaide. Mr. G. F.
