The winners, who went in first on Monday had the best of the game throughout, and showed to advantage at all points. Burns was the principal scorer in the match, and his stand with Mr. Rowe in the second innings of Essex was one of the best features of the play. Davidson’s 19 was the highest contribution on the Derbyshire side. Burns, too, bowled with some success, taking five wickets for 38 runs. Mr. Bishop’s figures in Derbyshire’s first innings are also worthy of notice. E ssbx . First Innings. Mr.H.G. Owen, b Davidson 7 Mr. J. J. Read, b Cropper 6 Mr. H. Fowler, b Cropper 2 Mr.R.C.
