F or the first tim e the Incogniti have this year visited the “ land o ’ cakes,” where, com m encing on Thursday, July 5, they played three matches, against the Grange and Lass- wade Clubs, and Loretto School. U nfor tunately, the weather proved bad, and the visitors lost the toss on each occasion, and had therefore the worst of the wickets in the first two matches, and no innings in the third. Their opponents proved to be very strong in batting, and their own performances in that line were m ost m ediocre, while their bowling and fielding were far from being up to the mark. As a result, they were severely beaten by the Grange and Lasswade, and had no opportunity of defeating, as they perhaps m ight have done, the Loretto boys. The visit had, however, its bright side, the Incogs being most hospitably entertained during the week by different members of the Lasswade Club ; and they look forward to an opportunity of showing better form, and avenging their defeats next season. R. Thoms accompanied them as umpire, and, as usual, won golden opinions every where, and gave universal satisfaction. The scores of the matches are appended :— IN COGN ITI v. GRANGE.
