Cricket 1888

274 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. JULY 10, 1886 ef 18815 has known him no more. Having qualified him self by residence at Maidstone, W right was this year duly installed in the Kent eleven, and of the value of his services to the County there can be no doubt. As a bowler in particular he has been of the greatest use, and, indeed, the statistical table which appeared in the Sportitig L ife of Saturday showed that he is the ninth in the order of m erit among the bowlers of the year. H is selection to represent the Players against the Australians as well as the Gentlem en at the Oval, was only a just tribute to his undoubted capacities as a cricketer, Wright is a left-hand bowler of medium pace. His delivery is fairly high, and as he generally breaks from leg ho requires careful watohing. Hia aotion, though not laboured in itself, is somewhat difficult to follow, and aa h® occasionally bowls a ball whioh has g. vary deoeptive flight, he is never, at any time, vary easy. Moreover he keeps an excellent length, and the batsmen in a general way •aanpt take liberties of any kind. He is a rigfht-handed bat, and though lacking in kit his defence is excellent, #o that at times his is a very troublesome wioket to get. A brilliant flold anywkere, his out cricket is Vtfry much above the average in every wav. Our pcuafcrait is from a phonograph by Alien and Son, Limited, of Nottingham. HAMPSTEAD NONDESCRIPTS v.
