JU N E 21, 1888. d R IC K E T : A W E E K L Y R E C O R D O F T H E G A M E . runs. W ard’s 37 not out was an excellent display of crioket. Going in a iecond time Notts were, for a time, seen to great disadvantage, and four of the best bats men were out with the total only 47. "When the seventh wicket fell they were only 28 runs on, but at this point Barnes, who had been playing in his best form, found a useful ally in Richardson, and these two professionals worked a great change in the aspect of the game. When play ceased on Tuesday night the pair had put on 5-1 runs, and yesterday morning on a. wet wicket Richardson, after helping to add 27 more in a quarter of an hour, was caught for a plucky and invaluable score of 38. Shacklock and Sherwin were soon dismissed, and Barnes was left to carry out his bat. He went in second wicket down and scored 90 out of 178 while he was in, a display of batting without a fault, quite in his best style. W ith 127 to win, Mr. Hornby and Barloir began Lancashire’s second innings, but rain prevented any further play after luncheon, and the game was drawn, Lanca shire wanting 112 to win with all ten wickets to fall. So far, though they have not won one of the four matches they have played, the Parsee cricketers, who began tlieir tour at Leyton on June 7, have shown better form than their predecessors who visited England in 1886. Their bowling has not proved so successful on the run-getting wickets here as they had perhaps expected, but the batting has been a decided improvement on that of the first team. The one defeat they have suffered was this week at Chiswick Park, when they played twelve aside, and were beaten by the Gentlemen of West Middlesex by six wickets. Mr. Cooper’s batting has, so far, been the most noticeable feature of their cricket. In seven innings he has made an aggregate of 247 runs, giving an average of 35. The following are the scores of the four matches already played. Their next fixture commences at the Oval to morrow, when they are to meet the Gentlemen of Surrey w ith Mr. W . W . Read at their head. PARSEES v. GENTLEMEN OF ESSEX. Played at Leyton on June 7 and 8. Drawn, the Parsees wanting 108 to save an innings’ defeat with only one wicket to fall. P a r s e e s .
