NOT. 24, 1887 C R ICK ET : A W E E K L Y RECORD OF TH E GAM E . 461 ber of subscribers has largely increased, in the past year by no less than 25 per cent, on the amount of the previous year’s subscription list; and we, therefore, recommend that the annual general meetings ke resumed. We have to report that our colleague, Mr. Betts, has been appointed Secretary to the Essex County Cricket Club, on which he has our cordial congratulations; and that it will be necessary either to fill his place, or to find some other means of placing the respensibility of ultimate selection in the hand* of some competent person. Ia conclusion your committee beg to call attention to the serious pecuniary loss suffered by George Hearne through the accident he received in July at Nottingham, and to express a hope that the General Committee may be able to see ita way towards making this up to him to some extent, in consideration of his long and successful service to the county club. (Signed) H a r r is . G e o r g e M a r s h a . m . W. Sutton (Dartmouth Park) drew the attention of the meeting to the conduct of clubs who scratched their matchea at tho last moment, and after an excellent speech proposed that the committee be desired to devise some plan of ascertaining the names of clubs who are in the habit of cancelling their engagements at short notice, in order that clubs affiliated to the association may be warned against making fixtures with them.
