Cricket 1887
886 CRICKET: runs. His brilliant display of batting for Eighteen of Hastings against the strength of Yorkshire professionals at the end of last July is of too recent a date, and will be too well remembered to require details. It will be enough to say that he scored on that o ',casion 180 out of a total of 356 made by the Eighteen from tho bat, and that with the exception of one chance, in the slips just before he was caught at the wicket, there was not a mistake in his innings, a perform ance, it will be admitted, of the highest order of merit against Yorkshire bowling. Mr. Pigg is not only an excellent all-round player, but an exceedingly keen cricketer. He bats in good form, and on a fast wicket is particularly dangerous, hitting well to most parts of the field. He is above the average, too, as a bowler—fast round arm—and as he is rarely off the wicket, requires careful watching. In the field he shows to advantage anywhere, and as he always plays up, what ever may be the state of the game, his popularity as a cricketer is not to be wondered at. THE CHIEF COUNTIES IN 1887.
