Cricket 1887
806 CRICKET: A WEEKLY EECOED OF THE GAME. AUG. 4, 1887. doubts that might have existed of his securing his “ blue.” , 'Throughout the season his all round cricket was of no small service to the Oxford eleven. Generally reliable as a bowler, he acquitted himself, at times, most creditably with the bat, notably in the Inter-University match at Lord’s, when he was not out for a really well-got score of sixty in the first inn ings. The scarcity of amateur bowlers afforded him a chance in both the matches between Gentlemen and Players, but with no great success, though, just afterwards he batted in excellent style a£ Lord’s for M.C.C. and Ground against Lancashire. Mr. Forster is a left-hand medium pace bowler, and as he is always straight and a good length is rarely unsuccessful. He is a right-handed bat, and as he stands over Gfeet 1 inch in height has an advantage of reach which often stands him in' good stead. He plays in good style, and having excellent de fence is sure to show to even greater advantage in the future as a battman. _ _ _ _ _ THE SCORE- BOOK. NOTICE.—The Editor wishes it to be dis tinctly understood that he only guarantees insertion of the scores of those Clubs arrang ing for the publication of all matches. To ensure insertion scores must reach this office, at the latest , by the first post on Tuesday morning following the match. YORKSHIRE v. EIGHTEEN OF HAST INGS AND DISTRICT. §ome high scoring marked this match, begun at Hastings on Thursday last. In all 853 runs were scored for thirty-one wickets, and when play ceased on Saturday night Yorkshire were 79 runs on with six wickets to fall. Mr. Herbert Pigg, it will be seen, contributed 180 of 356 made by the Eighteen from the bat. Such a performance againstYorkshire bowling deserves unstinted praise, and Mr. Pigg’s success will be most popular everywhere. E ig h t e e n of H a stin g s and D istr ic t . Mr. J. J.
