The Yorkshire eleven had the worst of the luck in this match begun at Lord’s on Monday, and the game was completed before luncheon on the second day. The Yorkshire committee gave a trial to two youngsters who had scored well against the eleven for the colts at Sheffield, Mr. E. Robinson, of Honley, and J. Denton, of Wakefield. Mr. Webbe won the tossi, and, opining that the .wicket would improve as the game advanced, deified to put Yorkshire in, a decision which as tho weather held up, proved to be a wise one. In their first innings the Northerners made a poor show, and were all out for 55, Mr. Robertson and Burton equally dividing the wickets. Middlesex when they went in did not fare much better, and wrere indebted to the good cricket of Messrs. Webbe and Walker, who scored nearly two-thirds of the number, for their total of 99. Going in again in a minority of 44 runs Yorkshire made a better show, Peel, Mr. Hawke, and Ulyett all hitting with freedom. In the end Middlesex had 116 to get to win, and this number was got for the loss of four batsmen, Mr. Stoddart hitting well but with luck for 42. Burton’s bow'ling for Middlesex was one of the best features of the match. In the two innings of Yorkshire he took ten wickets for 82 runs. Y o r k s h ir e . First Innings. Second Innings. L.
