Cricket 1886

SEPT. 9,1886. CEICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OE THE 407 MARYLEBONE C. & G. v. YORKSHIRE. The Scarborough festival was brought to a close yesterday with the conclusion of this, the third fixture. Peate and Hunter, after an absence from several matches, re-appeared in the Yorkshire eleven, who were opposed by a strongteam of the Marylebone Club. The latter, who won the toss, made a bad start, and six batsmen were out for 97 runs. Messrs. Walker and Paravicini, however, played capital cricket, although the former soon after he came in re ceived an injury which compelled him to have a substitute to make his runs. His score pf 55 was decidedly the bestbatting of the innings. In spite of some good play by Hall anj 1 Bates Yorkshire made a bad beginnin g, but the fine hitting of Grimshaw and the excellent play of Peel stood them in good stead towards the close, and at the completion of an innings they were 20 runs ahead. In their second innings Marylebone again fared badly, and when play ceased on Tuesday six wickets were down for 92 runs. Messrs. Walker and Para vicini, though, were again seen to great ad vantage, and the two amateurs increased the score by ninety-three runs for the eighth wicket. Yorkshire entered on their second innings yesterday, wanting 246 to win, and with two hours and a half in which to get them. There seemed then to be a certainty of a draw, but Mr. Grace and Barnes bowled with such remarkable success that no change was required. Mr. Hawke and Peel alone, indeed, ef the Yorkshiremen made any stand, and M.C.C. were left with a highly creditable win by 133 runs. Barnes bowled, as will be seen, with great effect in both innings of Yorkshire. M.C.C. &O. First Innings. Second Innings. Mr. C.I.Thornton, c Leal- beater, b Preston........ 33 Mr. E. F. S.
