862 CKICKET: A WEEKLY RECOKD OF THE GAME. AUG. 19,1886. gave two hard chances late in the innings, and as this is his first hundred in a County match, everyone will be pleased at his success. George Hearne, who was in while 338 runs were added, retired fifth wicket down. He was batting six hours and twenty minutes for his 126, another faultless display of cricket. Lord Harris with George Hearne added 168 for the third wicket, of which he had made 76 in brilliant style, before he played on. Of the 543 runs scored by Kent from the bat, Lord Harris andthebrothersHearnewereresponsible for 471, the Hearnes contributing as many as 378, or more than two-thirds of the aggregate K ent . Heavy rain had affected the wicket materi ally when the return match between these counties was commenced at Derby on Monday. The scoring in consequence on both sides was much below the average, and the game was completed well within two days. F. Sugg made the best use of the wicket on the first day, hitting freely and scoring 40 out of 49 while he was in. His was the highest indivi dual contribution oi the match, and altogether his brother, W. Sugg, Cropper and he were the only other batsmen on the Derby shire side able to get double figures in either innings. The Lancashire bowling, indeed, proved altogether too much for the Derbyshire batsmen, and no change was required in either innings. Watson was on throughout, and his figures were very remarkable. In the match he delivered 104 overs and 3 balls (71 maidens), for 55 runs and twelve wickets. More than two thirds of his overs were maidens, and his wickets were got at an average of under 5 runs. Lancashire won by ten wickets. D erbysh ire . First Innings. Cropper, c Pilling, b Briggs............................ W. Sugg, b W atson......... Coupe, c Pilling, b Watson W.
