Cricket 1886

822 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD 01’ THE GAME. AUG. 6,1886. RUGBY v. MARLBOROUGH. The Rugby Eleven won the annual match with Marlborough, played at Lord’s, on July 28 and 89, after a very even and exciting con test by 37 runs. The chief features of the match were the effective bowling of R. Wilson, who took, altogether, ten Marlborough wickets for 122 runs, and the batting of Bow den-Smith in Rugby’s second innings. The latter was in two hours and three-quarters for his 95. A peculiar incident occurred in Marl borough’s second innings :—Kitcat, the Marl borough captain, was caught off Bengough. By an oversight he had been allowe d to go on twice at each end, and with the third ball after his third change he got Kitcat caught at cover- point. The umpires decided that Kitcat was out, and, after an appeal to the Secretary of the Marylebone Club, who ruled that the bats man was out, but that he could not continue bowling, the game proceeded.
