Cricket 1886

44 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OE THE GAME. MAECH 25,1886 responsibilities of leadership. The uniform of the team will be the familiar red, white and blue of the M.C.C., than which no more appro priate colors could be chosen for a band of Australian cricketers. The last team were unfortunate in this respect, as one diminutive member saw in the choice of the dark blue jacket a decided leaning towards Victorian in tercolonial colours, and resented it accordingly, while it was the advice of a friendly English lawyer that alone saved the Australians from incurring all sorts of penalties for wearing on their caps a purely Australian emblem, in the shape of the emu and kangaroo, without first taking out alicence for the privilege at Herald’s College. The adoption of the M.C.C. monogram will not, however, subject the wearer to any penalties, as not coming under the heading of armorial bearings. As is generally known, the M.C.C. intend to arrange through their secre tary, Mr. 13. J. Wardill, who will be the man ager of the Australian team, for the visit to Australia next season of the best team of English amateur and professional cricketers that can be got together; and if the champion, W. G. Grace, is inclined to visit Australia once more, a cordial invitation from the club will not be wanting. THE MARYLEBONE CRICKET CLUB.
