Cricket 1886

250 CKICiiET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. JULY 8,1886. to which special notioe was directed in C ricket at the time. Leatherhead v. Ewell (July 4) ........................ 150 Leatherhead v. Sevenoaks Vine (July 5)......... 117 Leatherhead v. F. G. Lucas’ XI (July 18)......... 115 Leatherhead v Oatlands Park (July 1 9)......... 116 In this same year of 1883 he was indeed in wonderful run-getting form, and among his other scores were 112 for the Incogniti v. Bournemouth, and 160 not out for Hendon v. Wheatstone—this latter, the largest score he has ever made. In 1884, with J. G. Ferns for Hendon v. Pallingswick, he helped to make 204 for the first wicket, of whioh sum 117 were from his bat. This season, Mr. Scott has considerably added to his reputation as a batsman by his consistent success in first class matches. He has rarely failed to seore well, and the aver ages which appeared in this paper last week show that only two cricketers, Scotton and Mr. W. G. Grace to wit, have a better average so far. With very good defence, his wicket is at all times difficult to get, and he often shows to great advantage under conditions unfavour able to other batsmen. He is particularly strong on the off, and his driving on this side is very clean and hard. Though few opportuni ties have been afforded him of showing his capabilities as a bowler, he is a good change, and might have been tried in County cricket more frequently with advantage. He is a fair field. Our portrait is from a photograph by the London Stereoscopio Co. WIMBLEDON v. MR. MARTYN’S ELEVEN. Played at Wimbledon on June 26. 3 E leven . E.
