Newham and Brann away were seen to great disadvan tage in this match, played at Manchester on Thursday and Friday last. Going in first, they were all dismissed for 50, and in the two innings the aggregate was only 158 from the bat, an average of under eight runs. Mr. MoCormick, as will be seen, was the one bats man able to get double figures each time. Lancashire played two new men, Mr. J. Eccles of Preston and B. Hudson, the professional of the Longsight Club. The latter, with Briggs, added 111 runs for the third wicket in exactly an hour. Hudson, whose 98 included sixteen 4’s, hit with great vigour, but was missed more than once. Lancashire won by an innings and 144 runs. One of the best features of the game was the fine bowling of Barlow in the second innings of Sussex. He took nine of the ten wickets at a cost of only 39 runs. Mr, Teggin also took five wickets in the first for 20 runs, S ussex . First Innings. Tester, c Pilling, b Hudson 0 Budgen, b Hudson .......... 2 Mr. F. M. Lucas, b Teggin 8 Mr. E. J. The Nottingham eleven, who had not met Kent since 1879, succeeding in winning this match at Maidstone on Saturday, after thr^e days of interesting cricket. Kent, who wen the toss, began badly, but thanks to a useful stand by Lord Harris and George Hearne. who added 98 for the third wicket, were a le to reach a total of 228. The former, tnough badly missed at long on when he had mad 3 10, hit well, scoring 05 of the 98 runs got v hile he was in. When Notts went in Scotton again played well, but no one else got more than twenty-five and at the end of the first hands the home team were 43 to the good. The only feature of Kent’s second innings was another capital performance of GeorgeHearne. Going in before a run had been got, he was last out,
