Brann and Lucas and the effec tive bowling of A. Hide, Sussex were able to win this match, begun at Brighton on Monday, on the second afternoon with an innings and 154 runs to spare. The tw o batsmen named contributed 328 out of 405 from the bat, and certainly finer cricket has rarely if ever been seen. W hile they were together at one time 100 runs were got within the hour, and as many as 226 runs wrere added for the fourth w'icket. Each gave but one chance and those not easy ones, Mr. Brann’s being in the long field when he had reached 186. In his 219 were as many as thirty-five 4’s and five 3’s, a proof of the powerful character of his batting. The Hampshire eleven, in a m inority of 222, made a poor show when they batted a second time. Arthur Hide took nine of the ten wickets at a cost of only 25 runs, an extraordinary performance on a ground favourable to run-getting. H ampshire . First Innings. Second Innings.
