In the first innings they succeeded in disposing of them for 8 runs. The All Saints in batting made 80. Freemantle batting the second time, were all got out without a run. In the two innings, J Young took 10 wickets'‘(3in' 0he over] and J Cochran nine wickets, e&ch ata coqt of 3 rung NOTTS v. LANCASHIRE. The Nottinghamshire Eleven, following up their success over Sussex at Brighton, beat a weak team of Lancashire at Trent Bridge on Friday last. The two counties had not met since 1883, and it is a matter of. regret that Lancashire should not have been able to oppose the formidable combination of Notts under more favourable circumstances on the occasion of the first meeting after the revival of the old fixture. The Lancashire players in losing the toss, too, had the worst of the wicket, which played fairly easy while Notts was batting. In addition they suffered very considerably from the looseness of their fielding, which was very far from up to their usual standard. Notts winning the toss made a good start, and through the excellent batting of Shrewsbury, who played in best form, Barnes and ;Scotton, scored 149 for the loss of half their wickets. The tail, though, made such a poor show that the innings closed for an addition of only 24 runs, Barlow having taken six of the ten wickets at a cost of only 60 runs. Going in on Thursday afternoon Lan cashire made avery bad commencement, losing idur of their wickets before play ceased for only seventeen runs. On resuming on Friday morning they continued to fare very badly, and the match was over soon after three o’clock. Barlow’s first score of 18 was the only double figure on the side, and Wright and Flowers bowled with such effect that in less than two hours and a-half sixteep wickets fell for an aggregate of 73 runs. Wright’s bowling was the most noteworthy feature of the match. In all he took ten Lancashire wickets for only 45 runs. Flowers’ seven wickets cost 23 runs. Notts won by an innings and 83 runs.
