Cricket 1886

MAY 6,1886. CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 10i TWELVE OF SURREY v. FIFTEEN COLTS OF SURREY WITH CAPTAIN. The annual trial matches organised by the executive of the Surrey County Club were opened at Kennington Oval on Monday, ■when Fifteen Colts, under the charge of Mr. W. W. Read, were opposed by Twelve of the County. Bowley was the hero of the day. In the first innings of the Colts he took nine wickets at a cost of only 10runs, and later in the day showed good cricket for his 52. When the youngsters went in a second time, Lockyer and Brockwell batted in promising form. Sturdy, a slow left- hand round-arm bowler, was credited with five of the Twelve’s wickets. T he C olts .
