ALFRED SHAW’S SIDE. A trial match of Sussex cricketers was played at Sheffield Park on 22nd April. Mr. Greenfield’s team, which numbered 13 to 14, showed a great superiority in batting, and won easily on the first innings by 155 runs. J. Phillips and Mr. Ellis starred the season successfully, and Huggett also showed very fair form. Juniper took six wickets, though at a cost of 85 runs. When Shaw’s team went in Mycroft and Bean got rid of the best batsmen so cheaply that the total only reached 52. Mycroft took four wickets for 15 runs and Bean three for 9 runs. Maynard bowled with great success at the close of the innings. Score: — R ev . F. F. J. G reenfield ’ s T eam . H. Phillips, b Juniper 23 Tester, b Juniper .. 17 J. On Monday last the committee of the Leicestershire Club brought off the fourth of the series of the trial matches arranged for this season. The game, which was played on the county ground, ended in favour of the eleven by 75 runs. The county was only poorly represented, but in spite of this the colts only made a poor show, Bowler and Willett were the only ones to get double figures, and there was nothing in the out cricket to call, for special praise; the fielding in particular being very loose. On the side of the eleven Pearce showed good cricket for his 43. F ourteen C olts . J. Bowler, b Rylott .. 15 S.
