Cricket 1885

412 CRICKET ; A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. sept. 17 , ms. THE PA T SH U LL CLUB. The Patshull Cricket Club had a very successful season. They played 10 matches, ■winning 5, drawing 4 (3 much in their favour), and losing only one, and this the first match of the season, before the eleven had got properly together. This success was mainly due to four members of the team (though we must not overlook a general de termination throughout the club not to allow themselves to be beaten)—to the captaincy and batting of Mr. Shuker, whose average speaks for itself, and who invariably got runs especially when most wanted ; to the veteran, the Bev. G. G. Woodhouse’s skilful manipulation of the coin and the ball (with the former of which he won nine tosses out of ten, and with the latter he took 41 wickets in 10 innings); to the general all-round play of Mr. W . H. Griffiths, who, besides several most valuable scores, took 35 wickets (29 clean bowled) in nine innings; and to the general management, the wicket-keep- ing, and batting of Mr.E. C. Wadlow. Mr. Bridgeman’s place in the averages is due to one colossal total, but he has proved himself a most valuable assistant to the club, and we hope another year he will be able to play oftener.
