870 CR ICKET ; A W EEK LY RECORD OF THE GAME. sept . s . isss was most brilliant, and the first tbree wickets in Surrey’s second innings all fell to catches by him. Possessed of any amount of pluck, Sherwin will stand up to the fastest bowling without flinching, and no ball that it is possible to stop by any means will pass him. Considering his bulk, too, he is remarkably quick, and in cat ching, as well as stumping, is equally smart. Though he goes in last as a rule he is by no means a bad bat. He plays good cricket, and withal can hit well, as he showed in his second score of 35 for Notts against Surrey at the Oval early last month. Sherwin ha s also proved himself a liseful footballer. For more than one season he kept goal for the Nottingham Club, and with great credit. A keen cricketer and most respectable fellow, Sherwin is one of the very popular profes sion als of the present day. MR. BURRELL’S XI. v. MR. E. M. HANKEY’ S XI. Played at Littleburg on August 18. Rain prevented any play in this return match at Leicester, on Monday, and none was possible yesterday for the same reason. The game was consequently unfinished. Surrey being 105 on with only half their wickets down. Abel and Mr. Bush put on 60 for Surrey before the Amateur was stumped, and the two Reads added 87 runs for the fourth, Mr. Read in particular played well for his 53 not out. L eicestershire . trey C.
