aug . a?,was, CRIOKET; A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME.363 SUSSEX v. YORKSHIRE. After some unusually high scoring, this match the return, ended yeiterday afternoon at Brighton in a drawn game, 1,039 runs having been made in the three days for twenty-six wickets an average of just forty. Sussex was better represented than in any matoh of the season, and its performance in heading the formidable total of Yorkshire by 42 runs was a highly creditable one. The chief merit of this performance rested on Messrs. Newham and Lucas. Mr. Newham, who with Tester put on 118 runs for the second wicket, played faultless cricket. He was in close on three hours for his 101, which included ten fours, three threes and twelve twos. Mr. Lucas also batted in admirable style for his 63, and later on Jesse Hide, Mr. Wyatt, Mr. Brann and Arthur Hide scored freely. When York shire went in a second time yesterday after noon Ulyett and Hall, who had scored 128 for the first wicket on Monday, repeated the performance, taking the total to 108 before Ulyett, who had showed fine cricket for his 91, played on. Subsequently Lee and Bates hit freely, and when play ceased the score was 345 for six wickets. Y orkshire . First Innings.
