30 CRICKET; A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. fe b . 26, im>. I l l - brilliant. This is Blaokham’s first score of three figures in an important match, and with the exception of a difficult chance to the wicket-keeper there was no flaw in his innings. For New South Wales Hiddleston, Jones, Moses, Pope, and Marr all fielded well, and O’Hanlon, who kept wicket very well, made an exceedingly promising first appearance. The Victorians fielded on the whole better than their opponents. Bobert- son was especially conspicuous, though McDonnell, Bonnor, Bruce, Scott, and McShane all did good work, the first-named in particular. The wicket was all against the bowlers in the first innings. Palmer and Bruce were most useful for Victoria, and Marr, Downes and Moses, for New South Wales. Garrett was strangely unsuccessful, his one wicket costing him 122 runs. Palmer f ot a lot of work on in the second innings of few South Wales, and his performance was a very fine one. His six wickets only cost 26 runs, and, in the match, he took eleven wickets for 127 runs. He took the prize, given by Justice Williams, for the best bowling, and it is a little singular that this is the first trophy of the kind he has secured in an important match. Blackham won the prize given by the Victorian Association for the highest individual score. Of the 33 fixtures already decided Victoria has won 19 and New South Wales 14. All the matches, it is worthy of remark, are played out. Several English cricketers were on the ground during the play. Among them may be men tioned Messrs. I. D. Walker and G. F. Ver non (the Middlesex Amateurs), Henderson (of Surrey), and G. F. Hearne, the pavilion clerk at Lord’s. Score :— N ew S otjth W ales . Pil'St Innings. A. C.
