PLAYERS OF YORK- SHIRE. Though Emmett and Ulyett were repre senting M.C.C. and Ground, at Canterbury, the Players had all the best of this match, played at York on Friday and Saturday. The Hon. Martin Hawke, the Cambridge Captain, played well each innings, scoring for once out seventy-five of 1 30 made by the Amateurs from the bat. No one else could do much with the excellent bowling of the Players, although it must be stated that the wicket was materially affected by Friday’s rain. Y o r k s h ir e P l a y e r s . First Innings. Secon 1Innings. KENT v. M.C.C. & G. Following up their excellent performance against Yorkshire in the first match, Kent brought the Canterbury Week of 1885 to a satisfactory conclusion, beating a moderate eleven of the Marylebone Club and Ground, early on Saturday, by an innings and 48 runs. The County had again, as in the previous match, all the best of the wicket, though, none the less, the team one and all deserve high praise for their excellent all round cricket. Messrs. Mackinnon and Patterson made a capital commencement for Kent, puttiog on 90 runs for the first wicket. The latter was missed twice, the first time before he had got a run. No fault, though, could be found with the play of Mr. Mack innon, in whose 49 there was not a mistake. The remainder of the innings produced no noteworthy incident, except the steady play of Alec Hearne, who was at the wickets nearly three hours for his 23. As the wicket dried the Marylebone batsmen could do little with the bowling of Wootton and Alec Hearne, and fourteen wickets fell before the end of the second day for an aggregate of 166 runs. On Saturday morning the last six wickets in the second innings of M.C.C. were dismissed in less than forty minutes for 34 runs, all of them, curiously enough, being bowled. Wootton took 11 Marylebone wickets for 90, Hearne 9 for 72 runs. Alto gether, though the rain might have been expected to diminish the reoeipts consider ably, the attendances were good and on the whole the authorities have good reason to be satisfied with the results of the week. The arrangements, which were, as usual, under the supervision of Mr. W . De Chair Baker, were admirable, and every possible provision was made to ensure the comfort of those who visited the St. Lawrence Ground. The theatre was well filled to witness the performance of “ The Ticket of Leave Man,’* and “ Betsy Baker,” by the “ Old Stagers,” who were ably assisted by Miss Carlotta Addison and Miss Rosina Yokes (Mrs. Cecil Clay). The County balls, too, attracted large and fashionable assem blages. The annual sermon in the Cathedral was preached by the Hon. and Rev. E. Lyttelton, the Captain of the extraordinarily successful Cambridge Eleven of 1878. K e n t . Hon. M. B. Hawke, b Bates 40 not out Rev. H. M.
