33fl CRICKET; A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. A u g. is, less, GLOUCESTERSHIRE v. NOTTS. Rain interfered with the return match between these counties, played at Clifton on Thursday last and two following days. Though they won the tcss the Nottingham eleven were well got rid of for a total of 167, to which Mr. H. B. Daft was the chief contributor with a freely hit but somewhat fortunate score of forty. Gloucestershire had only twenty minutes left for play when they went in on the first day. This, though, was sufficient to get rid of three of their best batsmen—Mr. Grace, caught at the wicket, and Messrs. Brain and Townsend, at coverpoint. All three wickets fell to Atte well, off whom no run had been made. Attewell continued to bowl well when play was resumed on Friday morning, and six of the Gloucestershire wickets were credited to him at a cost of only twenty-seven runs. With all the worst of the wicket the Gloucester shire batsmen could not do much with the excellent bowling of Notts, and the scoring was very slow. Messrs. Brain and Gilbert made a stand in the second innings, and the former, who has been singularly unfor tunate recently, showed capital cricket for his 34. No one else, though, did anything, and in their two inniDgs Gloucestershire could only account fcr 167 runs. Mr. Gilbert was in an hour and ten minutes for four in the first, and two hours and forty minutes for 21 runs in the second innings. Notts won by ten wickets. N otts .
