YOUNG HARROW v. YOUNG HERTS (ST. ALBANS DISTRICT). Played at Gorhambury on July 28, by the kind permission of the Earl and Countess of Verulam, to whom the young cricketers and their managers beg to offer their sincere thanks for a most pleasant visit and day’s play. Gorhambury time was kept as of old, and the match (played out in the day) ended in a victory for Harrow. The extreme hard ness of the ground, owing to the long drought, gave the balls a strong inclination to go up wards, and by means of good fielding kept the innings within moderate proportions, but some good hitting was shown by several, and notably by one stout champion of Harrow, who sent a ball through the entrance door of the house. There was one feeling of sadness even on this happy day in the thought that the old friend and cricketer, who always took so deep an interest in Harrow and Hertfordshire, was no longer present to cheer and encourage the young and exchange friendly greetings with the old.
