Cricket 1885

302 CRICKET; A 'WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. JULY 30 , 1865. Lohm ann. There were then still wanting 58 to win, and the game seemed a certainty for K ent. Though B eaum ont escaped a chance of stumping, Lohm ann and he, how ever, gave no other chance, and thirty-four had been added when the former was caught at the wicket. Mr. Horner, the last m an, came in to Lohm ann with 32 runs still required, and soon after his arrival a general appeal for a catch by the wicket-keeper was given in his favour. After this the two batsmen continued to put on runs steadily, and there was intense excitement as the score rose. In consequence of an agreement between the two captains it was decided to play the m atch out, and it was twenty-five m inutes to eight before M r. Horner, who m ight have been run out in scoring it, made the w inning hit. Lob m aun carried out his bat for 34, a m ost creditable display of batting under the circumstances. Mr. H om er also deserves the highest praise for his judicious play at Ihe crisis. To this pair Surrey owed a well- earned and most exciting victory. In their Becond innings five batsmen failed to get a run. K ent . First Innings. Becond Innings, Mr. F. A. Mackinnon, b Beaumont.......................... 4 b Beaumont .. 7 F.
