The Nottinghamshire eleven claimed their second victory of the week at Nottingham on Saturday, when they b?at Gloucestershire easily with an innings and 16 luns to spare. For this success they were mainly indebted to the brilliant batting of Shrewsbury, and the very effective bowling of Flowers. Notts, whc went in first, were at the wickets all Thursday, having only made 203 runs for the loss of three wickets. Scotton, who, as usual, commenced the batting with Shrews bury, showed even more than his wonted care, and when the first wicket fell, after four hours and fifty minutes’ play, he had only made 46 out of 159 ruus. At the end of the opening day, Shrewsbury was not out 120, and lie added 17 more on the second morning before he was caught at cover- point. There was not a blemish in his long innings, which extended over six hours and three-quaiters. Admit able as his play has been throughout the season, this will rank as one of the best of many excellent perform ances. His score was made up of fifteen fours, six threes, fourteen two*-, and thirty- one singles. The Gloucestershire bowling was, on the whole, very creditable, and the number of maidens bowled by Mr. Grace and Woof especially noteworthy. Gloucester shire, with ail the worst of the wicket, which played badly towards the finish, could do little against the bowling of Flowers, and in their two innings were only able to realise an aggregate of 265 run^. The chief features of the batting were the steady play of Mr. E.L. Griffiths, and the vigorous hitting of Mr. Bush, who made 32 of the last forty runs Mr. Griffiths, who is, we believe, an old Rossallian, showed very good defensive critket. He went in first, and carried out his bat for 24 out of a total of 123. He was altogether two hour3 and a quarter at the wicket. Flowers’ bowling figures for Notts were particularly noteworthy. Altogether, he took eleven wickets for 89 runs. N o tt s .
