As they were taen 102 runs on, there was quite a chance of a victory for Glouces tershire. Bates, who had made seventy-five overnight, too, was quickly disposed of yesterday morning for an addition of nine runs, and the game looked worse for York shire. Some free hitting by Emmett, Petl and Hunter, however, altered the aspect of the game, and Gloucestershire had to go in to make 275 runs to win with no possibility of obtaining them, end just a chance of getting out. Though Mr. Grace, Mr. Gilbert and Painter were got rid of, Messrs. Townsend and Pullen played such capital cricket that no further wicket was secured, and the match ended in a draw very creditable to Glouces tershire. Mr. Grace’s 132, it is worthy of remark, is the highest score he has made since his 182 for Gloucestershire v. Notts, at Trent Bridge in 1881. Everyone will be pleased to hear of his latest success. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. The Gloucestershire elevea are to be heartily congratulated on their excellent show in this match, finished at Bradford yesterday, more especially when the brilliant form of Yorkshire just recently is taken into account. When play ceased last night, Messrs. Townsend and Puilen were thoroughly well in, and 170 of the 275 wanted to win had been got for the loss of only three wickets. From this, it will be seen that the Yorkshiremen had certainly not the best of the draw, on the contrary, the game pre sented an aspect more favourable to their opponents. The chief features of the match were the excellent batting of Mr. W. G. Grace and Painter, ia addition to the two batsmen already named for Gloucestershire, of Bates, Grimshaw, Peel, and Hunter for Yorkshire, and the creditable bowling of Mr. Page and Woof for Gloucestershire. Mr. Grace and Painter were responsible for 209 out of 268 from the bat in the first innings of Gloucestershire, Painter hit in fine style, and he helped Mr. Grace to put on 1G1 runs for the second wicket. The Gloucestershire captain’s score of 132 was worthy of his best days. With tho excep tion of a hard ciiance to short blip, there was not tho bhadow of a fault in his innings c Page, bWoof ..8 4 b Woof..................35 c Grace, b Woof.. 4 c Painter,b Greg* 52 b Grace .. .. 27 c Gilbert, b Grace 12 not out..................60 c and b Gregg .. 10 Extras .. .. 7 Total ................... 236 Total ..825 G l o u c e s t e r s h ir e .
