Cricket 1885

2 5 4 CRICKET; A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. JULY 9, 1885.. : LANCASHIRE v. ESSEX. Lancashire, though represented by a moderate eleven, had no difficulty in win ning its first match of the season with Essex, played at Manchester, on Thursday and Friday last. The scoring was not high on either side, and there was nothing very note worthy in the cricket. Crossland’s residen tial qualification having been disallowed by M.C.C. he was o f course an absentee, and his services are not now available for Lancashire. Mr. E. Hornby, Mr. H. Eccles and Copeland were tried for the first time in this match Mr.C.D. Buxton,of the Cambridge University eleven, made his appearance in the Essex eleven. He was of great service too, with both bat and ball, making 61, the largest number on the side, besides taking three wickets fer 44 runs. L a n c a s h ir e . First Innings. Mr. A. N.
