Cricket 1885

jpN E 4, 1885. CRICKET; A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 173 MARYLEBONE C. & G. v. NOTT3. T'ae result of this match, played at Lord’s on Thursday, Friday aad Saturdiy last, was productive of general sarprise. The Mary lebone eleven was only a very poor one, and indeed, even with Mr. W. G.Gra'ie, on paper it seemed altogether unfit to cope succass- fully with such a strong all-round eleven as that of Notts. As it was the County made a very sorry show and Marylebone had all the best of the game. Shrewsbury an 1 Attewell were not playing, but their absence could not account for th9 tarn3display of the Notting ham eleven, and indeed the form altogether was most disappointing. S^otton and Mr, H. B. Daft alone got double figures in each innings, and the latter—a son of the veteran Richard Daft—who was so successful for the Notts Colts against the Yorkshire Colts recently, was the principal contributor, scoring 23 and 10 not out. The feature of the match w b s the brilliant performance of Mr. W. G. Grace. Of late years he has cer- tainlydone nothing to equal his record on this occasion, and every one will be highly pleased at the extraordinary success which attended his efforts with both bat and ball. His G3 was the highest score on t he side, and in addition he took sixteen wickets at a cost of only 60 runs. Such all-round cricket speaks for itself, and, indeed, Mr. Grace’s achievemant in this match is hardly likely to be beaten this season. The wicket on the whole did not play well, and in analysing the performance of tbo Nottingham eleven, it must be considered that some of the team, notably Barnes, had not yet by any means got into form after their Australian trip. M.C.C. won by an innings and 59 runs. N otts . First Innings. Mr. J. A.
