OF RAMSBOTTOM AND DISTRICT, A match between an eleven captained by Barlow and an Eighteen of Ramsbottom and District, was played at Ramsbottom on Fri­ day and Saturday last. The Eleven were five runs behind on the first innings, but thankfr to the vigorous hitting of Robinson had scored their first total for the loss of only half their wickets when they were in a second time. Sweetlove took 8 wickets for 8 rime, also accomplishing the “ hat trick.” He has already this season played in four matches, and taken no less than 24 wickets for a total cost of 33 runs. Mr. F. M. Buckland took his M.A. degree at Oxford on Thursday. The Rev. W. B. Money, of Trinity College F. G. Knott, Magdalene, and H. Pigg, Emmanuel, took their M.A. degrees at Cam­ bridge on Thursday. In a match on May 2, at Fulwell, between the Fulwell and Teddington Clubs, A. Archer obtained six Fulwell wickets in forty balls for 12 runs, A. Bowden-Smith took the remaining four tickets for four runs, in the same number of balls. P. B. Mackay con­ tributed 73 (not out) to tho Teddington total of 128. The three brothers Steel, D. Q., A. G., and H. B., played for the Liverpool Club on Saturday last against the Dingle Club. D. Q. contributed 60 of the total of 112, A. G. being bowled for 1, and H. B run out for 7. A. (£ took five of the six Dingle wickets which fell, at a cost of 57 runs. SURREY COUNTY CLUB. On Saturday last a trial match of some importance in connection with Surrey cricket was played at the Oval. With the exception of Messrs. Bowden, Key and Roller, and M. Read, most of the principal cricketers in the county took part in the game. The sides were captained by Messrs J. Shuter and Read respectively. Play began soon after ten o’clock, and in order to give all a chance, anyone getting 40 retired. Messrs. Read, Shuter and Diver, of the old hands, and Bowley, Beaumont, Banks, and Mr. Martineau, the captain of the Uppingham Eleven, all showed good cricket.
