A trial match in connection with the Essex County Club was played at Brent wood on Friday and Saturday last. On the whole the cricket was not of a very high class. Jones was the only one of the Players to get double figures in each innings. They had only 13G to win when they went in a second time, but no one made any stand against the bowling of Pickett and Mr. Law. The former took five wickets for 27, the latter five for 14 runs. The Gentlemen won by 85 runs. G entlemen . First Innings, H. G. Owen, 1b w, b Kirk- m a n .....................................13 F. H. Stevens, b Kirkman 17 H. F.
