THURSDAY, MAY 1, 1884. -McP7IYIM0NvGf)gSIP3lH- The abstract and brief chronicle of the time .—Hamlet T h e P. & O. Steamer “ Sutlej,” with Murdoch and nine members of the Fourth Australian team on board, reached Plymouth safely on Tuesday afternoon. It was expected that the “ Sutlej ” would arrive on the morning of that day, but she did not come in to expectation, and as in consequence the Australians could notleave Plymouth till8.23on Tuesday night, it was five o’clock yesterday morning before they were fairly in stalled in their snug quarters at the Tavistock Hotel. I h a d an opportunity of seeing nine of the ten yesterday, and all of them, Murdoch, whose cold seems to have quite disappeared, included, appeared to be in the best of health and spirits. W. H. Cooper, the insidious bowler, was not with them, as he has taken the opportunity of visiting some friends in Devonshire, and will not reach London till to-day. Alexander and Boyle will, I believe, play for the Surrey Club against Broadwater, at Godalming to-day, and the rest will commence regular practice at Mit cham this afternoon. I s t a t e d on the authority of the Manager that the Australians would not make any fixture which would include the Derby Day. Since the arrival of the balance of the team yesterday, though, it has been decided not to leave the first three days of the Derby week open, and I believe a match at Birmingham against a picked team will positively be arranged for May 26, 27 and 28. Accompanying the team, I may add, come Messrs. Harrison, a great foot ball enthusiast and suporter of cricket, and W. H. Hedley, who has been specially sent over to write reports of the tour for the Melbourne Argus and Leader,
