mat 1, 1884. CRICKET; A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME, 85 ALFRED SHAW’S XIII. v. EEY. P. J. GREENFIELD’S XIII. The opening match of the season was played at Sheffield Park last Friday. The game was made additionally interesting by the presence of two members of the Aus tralian team—G. Alexander, the manager, and H. F. Boyle. Alfred Shaw’s team won on the first innings by G2 runs, Mr. W. Blackman scored 51, including four fours and three threes. Neither of the two Aus tralians, who were, of course, out of practice, did much with the bat. Alexander, though, took three wickets in the second innings of Mr. Greenfield’s team for 24 runs. This, the second of the trial matches in stituted by the Earl of Sheffield, was played at Sheffield Park on Monday. Humphreys contributed a good not-out innings of 45 to Mr. Greenfield’s total of 117. Shaw obtained six wickets at a cost of 32 runs, and J.
