IN C O G N IT I N O R TH E R N AND M ID L A N D TOU R . men were encountered, and the Incogs losing the toss had a day’s outing, which might have been materially lessened had the “ graspers ” been a bit more successful. Pearson, Wright, and Thornber for: Cheshire, and Hattersley-Smith and White head for the Incogs scored freely, Smith’s innings being a grand one. Rain on the second day made run-getting slow, and generally interfered with play, which could only be commenced at four p.m. At Derby,i owing to county requirements, the Incogs lost the services of Whitehead on the after noon of the first day, and it is not too much to say they thereby lost the match, for he was in rare form with both bat and ball, having recovered from a sprained snide, which had placed him on the •*sick list” during the first week. The wind-up was at Huntingdon, and an easy win was here re corded. The bowling of Leatham and Smith fairly settled the “ shire.” Leatham and Yates both batted well. A ll were sorry when a most pleasant tour was brought to an end. Good weather, good cricket, and good fellow ship ran a dead heat. The hospitality of the Liverpool Club will long be remembered by those who took part in a very festive even ing. Roper and the “ W oodcock ” for their respective sides scored heavily in the sing ing line, and were both “ not out.” To the Liverpool Club the thanks of the team are due, and are most cordially given for by no means the least pleasant feature of the. Incog Northern Tour o f’84, 11. Thoms was the umpire, which at once settles the ques tion as to this important part of the game being performed A l. INCOGNITI v. B IRKENHEAD PARK. The Incogs in their northern ventures opened the ball at Birkenhead on a good wicket. Tho match resulted in a draw, Heaton for the home side, and Trollope, Bagot, Harrison, and Hynes for the visitors showing good form, the last-named per forming especially brilliantly, and with the “ W oodcock” putting on over 70 runs for the last wicket. The Aigburtli ground at Liverpool was the next fixture, and hero, what with losing the toss and some members affecting the 4‘ dropping suit ” (Roper coming in for the lion’s share of support) the home team retained possession all day, aud put up a large total, ftopar and Kemble being especially busy. The next day the. Incogs were twice got rid of for small score.?, but this v. as attributable to the false state of the wickct, which h id Lee )me almost unplayable from an unhappy combination of rain and sun. Tde Incogs then journeyed to Man chester and scored their first victory, chiefly owing to the good bowliug of Bagot and Tristiam and the hitting of Kemble.
