G. Graoe.. Page .. .. Townsend .. Curteis .. .. Brain Painter .. GLOUCESTERSHIRE v. MIDDLESEX. The Cheltenham week was brought to a successful close on Saturday, with the com pletion of the return match between Glou cestershire and Middlesex. The fixtures between these counties have generally been productive ofhigh scoring, and on this occa sion the game was unfinished after 978 runs had been totalled for thirty wickets. Mr. O’Brien was the principal contributor on the Middlesex side, and in both innings his hitting was brilliant. In his second he ought to have been caught when he had made 26, but altogether his play was quite up to his form of the early part of the sea son, and in the match he was credited with 168 runs, an excellent performance. Mr. Lyttelton’s second score of 71 was a very fine display of cricket, and the stand he made with Mr. O’Brien, which resulted in 111 runs, mainly averted the possibility of a defeat. Mr. Pullen’s brilliant hitting was the feature of the Gloucestershire batting. His 161 is the first, and it was a grand display of cricket from every point of view. While he was in with Mr. E. M. Grace, 190 runs were added, and there was not a fault in his long inningg of four hours, until he had reached 150. In his hits were one five and fifteen fours. Mr. E. M. Grace hit with his old vigour for his 67. At the finish Gloucestershire wanted 123 to win with all their wickets to fall. M id d l e s e x . First Innings. Second Innings. Mr. I. D.
