Grace were absent from the Gloucestershire eleven, in consequence of the recent death of th»ir mother, in this match, played on the Trent Bridge Ground, at Nottingham, on Thursday and Friday. As Notts was represented by its full strength, the game at the outset looked very uninteresting, and in the condition of the wicket, which after the recent rains was all in favour of the bowlers, Gloucester shire’s chances were still further reduced. Mr. Pullen went in first wicket down for Gloucestershire and was not out at the close of the innings, having scored 24, just one half of the runs made from the bat. Con sidering the state of the wicket, this was an excellent performance. Shaw and Attewell bowled unchanged and the former, who took eight wickets for 29 runs, did the hat trick, getting Mr. Townsend, Painter and Mr. Page with consecutive balls. The chief features of the Nottingham innings were the vigorous hitting of Flowers and the careful play of Scotton. The former scored 50 out of 61 while he was in, and Scotton was two hours and fifty minutes at the wiokets for 19. When Gloucestershire went in a second time, Shaw and Attewell again did not require a change, and once more Shaw was credited with the hat trick, getting rid of Mr. Townsend and Painter with following balls. Notts won by ten wickets. Shaw’s bowling was extraordinary. In all he took 14 wickets for 65 runs. Score and analysis:— G l o u c e ste r sh ir e . First Innings. Second Innings. Mr. J. H.
