The ground owing to the rains was slow, but the Gloucester shire bowling was severely punished by the tail of the Yorkshire eleven, and (xrimshaw, who played capital cricket, and Emmett, who was missed no less than four times, added 79 for the eighth wicket. Mr. Wood house, of the Manningham Club, made his first appearance in the Yorkshire team, and with great success. His score of 68 was the result of thoroughly good cricket. Glou cester when they went in again had to bat on a drying wicket and in a very bad light. They wanted 184 to save the innings, and though some fair cricket was shown the tenth wicket fell for 127. The signal victory of Marylebone wa? mainly due to the good all round cricket of Mr. G. R. Burge, one of the El»tree Masters. He was the principal scorer on the side, and in addition, took twelve Clifton wickets at a cost of 42 runs. M.C.C. J. S. Russel, c Darley, b Mayo ..................26 W. J. Ford, b Fowler.. 11 W . H. The Derbyshire eleven sustained another defeat—their fifth in succession—yesterday at Derby, when Sussex beat them by fifty runs. Owing to rain the wicket was all in favour of the bowlers, and the weather generally wa3 so unfavourable that the game was never very interesting. Derbyshire were able to claim an advantage of 24 on the first innings, but when they went in a second time with 22 to win their batting failed, and though Wood-Sims and Cropper made a fair stand, the total only reached 71. Mr. Evershed b3ing absent. The last six wickets only added seven runs. S ussex , First Innings. Tester, c Marlow, b W. Chatterton .................. 5 Mr R T. Ellis, run ou t.. 3 Mr. W . Mr. O’Brien scored 91 not out and 57 for Ox ford, against Lancashire, not 91 and 57 not out. He went in in the first over with two runs up and carried ont his bat. M e s s rs . H e n n a h a n d K e n t, of Biighton, have taken an excellent photograph of the eleven which represented England so success fully at Lord’s, last week.
