Lee, for the latter, bowled nine overs (seven maidens) for three runs, and took ten wickets, LANCASHIRE v. SURBEY. The excellent bowling of Mr. Horner and Barratt, supported by good all-round field ing, enabled the Surrey eleven to claim a very creditable victory over Lancashire cn Friday at Liverpool with only twenty- nine runs to spare. The home shire was well represented, and for the first time, we believe, the four brothers Steel figured in the same county match. Surrey won the toss, and made a very bad start, losing five of their best wickets for only 23 runs. Messrs. Shuter and Key (whose first match it wa^ for Surrey this year) by excellent cricket, improved their position materially, and tho free hitting of Wood at the close enabled them to reach a total of 163. Despite the good play of A. Gr. Steel, two of his brothers, and Briggs for Lancashire, the Southerners were in a majority of 37 runs on the first innings, and this advantage proved very useful to them. When they went in again Mr. Diver and Read hit freely, but the rest of the eleven only made a poor show, the nine together only contributing 22 runs. Lanca shire, with 133 to win, made a good start, and when the third wicket fell 55 had been got. Aftfr this, though, the Surrey bowling and fielding showed to great advantage and the last wicket fell at 103. Mr. Horner bowled extremely well at the close, and indeed Surrey’s victory was in a great measure due to him. He took six wickets in 13$ balls for 34 runs. S u r r e y . First Innings. Mr. W. E.
