NOTTS* The Gloucestershire eleven, after making a good fight on the first innings, were beaten yesterday at Gloucester by Notts with six wickets to spare. Shrewsbury was absent from the Nottingham team, and Mr. J. A. Dixon took his place. Chiefly through the vigorous hitting of Painter, and the faultless cricket of Mr. W. G, Grace, Gloucestershire made a respectable first score of 201, and at the end of an innings they were only three runs behind. When they went in again, though, on Tuesday night, no stand was made against the bowling of Alfred Shaw and Barnes, and the six best wickets were down for sixty. Rain fell so heavily on the second night that a resumption was not possible yester day until one o’clock, and Shaw got all the four last wickets of Gloucestershire, the innings closing for an addition of only nineteen runs. Shaw’s bowling was re markable. His figures showed 49 overs and 2 balls, for 28 runs and 8 wickets. Notts lost four batsmen in making the 77 wanted and consequently won by six wickets.
