Cricket 1884
262 CRICKET ; A WEEKLY REGORD OF THE GAME. j u l y i o .1884. *16completed in n in g s,or an average of 25 runs. So far this season, though he has hardly quite come up to his form of 1883, Flowers has shown himself to be in good form, both with the bat and ball, and his performance for Marylebone Club and Ground against Cambridge University at Lord’s was indeed an extraordinary one, and in that match in addition to a finely hit score of 122 out of a total of 223 he took fourteen Cambridge wickets at a cost of 80 runs. As an all round cricketer Flowers has at the present time n o t many superiors. He hits very hard on both sides of the wicket, and when set scores very fast, punishiug loose bowling with great severity. He bowls slow round with considerable break from the off, and when the ground helps him at all is very difficult to play. In the field, too, he is much above the average. He is a sure catch and, as he has a smart return, he always acquits himself with credit in any position. Oar portrait is from a photograph by EUiott and Fry, of Baker Street. By a slip of the pen in our biography of the Hon. Alfred Lyttelton, it was stated that he won the Gold Tennis prize of M.C.C last year. It was in 1882, not 1883 that he was successful. Next w eek’s C rick et will contain a por trait and biography of W. Sootton, of Notts. ¥JIE:gC0RE:B0OK. BURLINGTON v. KENLEY. Played at Kenley on June 28. E. B. Warren, c Joyce, b Mason .. 24 S.
