[A d v t .] B IC K L E Y PA R K W E E K , This now annual cricket week was com menced on Monday, June 23. The wickets throughout were perfect, and reflected the greatest credit on the club’s professional, S. Apted. The opening match against the B.B. was chiefly conspicuous for the fine innings played for the home team by D. D. Pontifex. His 169 was marred by only one chance, and that when he had scored 125. For the B.B. Lord Harris, Mackinnon, and Hugessen were in their best form. The match ended in a draw in favour of the home team. On Wednesday the Incogs brought down a strong team and gave their opponents a taste of their batting strength, running up an innings of 365 runs. Of these Inglis made 101 by fine cricket, and he was ably supported by G. Ireland, H. J. Hill, and Parke. The home team, with the exception of B. H. Latter and Gilbert, signally failed in the first attempt, though they accredited themselves better in the second innings, with a total of 273 for six wickets. Grimsdale’s 83 were obtained in tirst-class style, and his innings was all the more creditable as he was suffering much from lameness. Friday saw the home team opposed by Richmond. The latter headed their opponents by 31 runs at their first attempt, but on going in again B. P. for the second time during the week pulled them selves together and totalled over 300, Cooper, Betts, B. H. Latter, and Evans all playing well for their runs. This gave Bichmond 306 runs to get to wm. With eight wickets down, and 40 minutes to play, the match looked a certain win for the home team. The fine stand, though, by Holt and Vigne deprived them of their revenge for the seven defeats they suffered at the hand of their opponents the previous week at Bichmond. Thus ended a most enjoyable week’s cricket, during which 2,551 runs were made for the loss ot 92 wickets, or an average of 27 runs per wicket. The B. P. club entertained their friends on each afternoon, and the ladies showed their appreciation by gracing the ground in numbers every day. BICKLEY PARK v. BAND OF BROTHERS.
