Kent suffered its second defeat of the week at Lord’s on Saturday, when its eleven —not a representative one—was beaten by a strong team of Middlesex by 242 runs. Middlesex had only an advantage of five on the first innings, bnt Messrs, Pearson and Scott punished the Kent bowling heavily when they went in a second time, and later on Mr. Henery and Burton also scored freely. Mr. Scott, whose first match it was for the county this season, played capital cricket, ana the same may be said of Mr. Pearson, whose hitting was very clean. With 344 to win Kent lost four of its best wickets in the bad light on Friday night, and as no one but Mr. C. Wilson lent any help to the captain on Saturday, the total only reached 101, Lord Harris taking out his bat for an excellent 35. Mr. Studd took seven wickets for 37, and in the match altogether 10 wickets for 71 runs. M id d le se x . First Innings. Seconl Innings. Mr. A. J.
