The Cambridge Eleven suffered a decisive defeat in their last home match of the year yesterday, when the Australians defeated them by an innings and 81 runs. The match will be memorable as the first, in which an Australian Eleven has beaten the University. It is also noteworthy from the fact that the total of 378 made by the Colcnists is their highest in England up to the present time, as Murdoch’s 132 is the highest individual score. Murdoch’s innings was the feature of the match. It was a fine display of sound and correct batting, en tirely without a fault. He was four hours and a half at the wicket, and his chief figures were twenty fours, four threes, and twelve twos. Palmer again distinguished himself with the bat, being not out at the finish for a very well-got 68. When Cam bridge went in a second time no one but Messrs. Wright and Paravicini offered any resistance to the bowling of Palmer and Spofforth, and the eleven were all out for 98, Second Innings c Scott, b Spof forth .. •. .. 24 c Scott, b Palmer 7 b Palmer .. 9 cand b Spofforth 3 25 st Blackham, b Palmer •• .. 5 b Palmer .. 0 c Murdoch, b Pal mer .................. 5 c Scott, b Spof- 8 b Spofforth.. .. 2 2 B 2, n b 1 .. 3 Total .. 93 W .
