The Nottinghamshire Eleven were able to claim a well earned victory in this match at Sheffield, on Tuesday, after a rather extra ordinary game. Run-getting is always low when these counties meet, but on this occa sion the bowlers were seen to even greater advantage than usual, and on the second day twenty wickets fell for 116—an average of less than six runs. With 53 to win Notts lost six wickets for 32, and it was indeed mainly the good play of Walter Wright at the crisis which enabled Notts to win with three wickets to spare. The ground was rather slow, but certainly not in a condition to mater ially favour the bowlers, though it helped them undoubtedly. The light, though, was very bad on the second day, and this will to some extent account for the small scoring. Peate and Emmett bowled well for Yorkshire. The best performance, though, of the match was that of Alfred Shaw. He took ten wickets for 61 runs. Y o k k s h ik e . First Innings.
